21 November 2023

From 14-17 November, the EuropaBON final workshop took place at the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) in Leipzig, Germany. The event gathered project partners, key stakeholders, and advisory board members, with over 30 participants attending in person and nearly 20 joining online.

The workshop focused on reviewing EuropaBON's milestones from the past three years and addressing upcoming tasks. Key discussions included finalising the Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBV) workflows, co-designing the monitoring system, conducting a cost-benefit analysis, and assessing cross-cutting biodiversity policies. Participants also deliberated on establishing the European Biodiversity Monitoring Coordination Centre (BMCC).

On the last day, attendees discussed the future of EuropaBON, including maintaining the project's network, planning a stakeholder conference and policy event in Brussels next year, and strategies for disseminating EuropaBON's results. The workshop also facilitated engagement with other EU projects like MAMBO and B-Cubed.

Overall, the workshop provided a platform for comprehensive discussion and strategic planning, ensuring the continuity and impact of EuropaBON's efforts in biodiversity monitoring and policy integration.
